Didier and Elise’s relationship is stormy and passionate; it’s love at first sight. Didier plays the banjo in a bluegrass band, lives in a caravan in the Belgian countryside and idolises America as the ‘land of the free’. Elise owns her own tattoo parlour. Her body is plastered with images – little mementos of past lovers whose names have been carefully covered up by new tattoos. Before long their two lives are closely intertwined. Elise sings in Didier’s band and they soon have a daughter together, little Maybelle, with whom they move into a lovingly if unconventionally restored country house. This film accompanies Elise and Didier on their rollercoaster ride through life; through days filled with their love of music and their mutual passion. Based on the stage play by Johan Heldenbergh and Mieke Dobbels, director Felix van Groeningen portrays various episodes in Elise and Didier’s story. Plot summary 

Epitaph is a 2007 South Korean film directed by brothers Jung Sik and Jung Beom-sik. The film is a horror film set primarily in 1942, 

while South Korea was under the colonial rule of Japan. It is framed by scenes set in 1979.

Browsing an old photo book in 1979, Park Jeong-nam travels back with his memories to 1942, when Korea was occupied by Japan, when he 

was a young and immature intern doctor in Anseong Hospital. During those four days, strange events will happen, when corpses brought 

to the mortuary are not able to rest in peace.

Three intertwined stories follow, starting in reverse order(the second starts the day before):

One: While awaiting for his bride-to-be to arrive from Japan(the daughter of the hospitals director), Jeong-nam is fascinated by a 

recently diseased young woman. He spends time near the corpse in the morgue and draws her face. It is then time for the diseased to 

return his appreciation.

Two: Asako is a young girl who was the only survivor of a car accident which killed all her family. She does not speak and appears 

to be in a state of shock, but what the doctors can not see is that she is drowning in guilt and being visited by the ghost of her 

mother. 

Three: Serial killings of Japanese soldiers continue and a married couple, Kim Dong-won and Kim In-yeong, both surgeons, are involved 

in the autopsies. Meanwhile, Dong-won finds out that his wife has no shadow, and that the killer is much nearer than he could possibly 

imagine. 

The films production designers, Min-bok Lee and Yu-jeong Kim, were nominated for a 2008 Asian Film Award for the work in 'Epitaph' 

Epitaph is noted for its classic portrayal of Kyongseong(now Seoul) life in the 1940s, when Japanese cultural influences remained 

strong. A few techniques used by the directors to recreate the 1937 setting were: - utilizing 16mm film, - utilizing vintage camera 

from that era, - placing scratches and dust on the film surface.

Plot / Synopsis

Thematically, Javier Rebollo's Lola joins such classics as Nicolas Roeg's Bad Timing (1980) and Patrice Leconte's Monsieur Hire (1989) in its acute psychological exploration of one man's obsession with a local woman, and couples this with an extended meditation on loneliness. Michael Abiteboul is Leon, a fortysomething loser who lives with his bedbound, rapidly-deteriorating mother in a constantly overcast Parisian suburb. The depressed and taciturn Leon and his mother occasionally speculate on the neighbors whose life stories are projected audibly through the razor-thin walls, but Leon otherwise lives in a state of silence, depression, and inertia. Eventually, his mother dies, but he klutzily spills her ashes all over the apartment floor. The first glimmer of hope in his life arrives in the form of Lola, a comely Spanish neighbor who stops by the apartment to ask for some ice; Leon instantly recognizes her as an actress on a local porno channel. Days later, Lola catches Leon's eye again, in a local bar, and he takes increasing, then obsessive interest in her goings-on, rifling through her mail and tracking her involvement with various men. When she passes out, drunk, Leon carts her home; he also starts leaving money on the ground for her to find.
